Visit to Portsmouth of SAS Amatola

Republic of South Africa frigate SAS Amatola sailing into Portsmouth today (Sunday).
She will carry families and South African delegates to lay wreaths on the wreck site
of the troop transport ship SS Mendi on Tuesday. On February 21, 1917 640 men
from the 5th Battalion of the South African Native Labour Corps died
when she was rammed by the SS Daro in thick fog off the Isle of Wight
.
